Hello, Eagle Family!
My name is English Nick, and I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining The Eagle starting Monday morning from 6:00 to 9:00.
First, let me introduce myself.
I grew up in the south of England in a small village called Stourton, in the county of Wiltshire, about 100 miles southwest of London. Google it! My dad was a shepherd on a large estate, which meant I spent plenty of my childhood herding sheep, helping with farm chores, and enjoying life in the beautiful English countryside.
Stourton was also only about 23 miles from Stonehenge. Yes, the real one. It was considerably larger than the version in This Is Spinal Tap, although ours never came down from the ceiling.
Growing up in Britain also meant I was fortunate enough to be right in the middle of one of the most incredible periods in music history. It was a time when new wave was exploding, punk was changing the landscape, synth-pop was taking over the airwaves, and artists were creating the soundtrack that would define a generation. Bands like Duran Duran, Tears for Fears, Simple Minds, The Human League, Eurythmics, Depeche Mode, and many others were becoming household names, not just in Britain, but around the world.
For a music fan, it felt like magic. These artists weren’t just making hit records. They were creating a cultural moment. I had the chance to see many of them perform live at festivals and concerts across the UK, and those experiences helped fuel my lifelong love of music. I was even inspired to sing in bands of my own, playing pubs and clubs throughout southern England. Looking back, I realize how lucky I was to grow up surrounded by so much of the music we still celebrate every day on The Eagle.
In 1996, I made the move to the United States, where I’ve spent the last several decades doing what I’ve always loved most: sharing great music and connecting with listeners on the radio.
That’s exactly what I can’t wait to do with you here on The Eagle.
If you’re wondering what mornings will sound like, the answer is simple: the Eagle you know and love. We’ll keep delivering the biggest and best ’80s music every morning because I happen to think the 1980s produced the greatest decade of music ever recorded.
Just as important, you’ll continue to hear more music than on any other station in town. We’ll have some fun conversations, tell a few stories, and talk about what’s happening around the Miami Valley but the music will always come first.
And here’s my promise to you: this isn’t going to be one of those morning shows where a bunch of blokes sit around laughing at their own jokes while the music disappears for twenty minutes at a time.
My goal isn’t to dominate your morning. My goal is to be that friend in the passenger seat, talking with you instead of talking at you. A friend who can share a thought, tell a story, make you smile, and then get out of the way for another great song from the greatest decade in music.
I genuinely can’t wait to become part of your mornings. Thank you for welcoming me into the Eagle family. I’m honored to have the opportunity, and I’m excited to start this next chapter together.
