Driver reportedly dies after crashing into fireworks store in Florida

WEST MELBOURNE, Fla. — One person has died after their car reportedly crashed into a fireworks store, which caused a fire in West Melbourne, Florida.

According to a news release from Brevard County Fire Rescue, fire crews were called just after 4 p.m. Monday about a car into a structure in West Melbourne. Callers told dispatchers that the car had “ignited the interior” of Phantom Fireworks.

According to WFTV, when fire crews arrived at the scene, the building was fully in flames.

BCFR said that “rapidly deteriorating fire conditions with heavy involvement of the fireworks that were inside of the building.”

Officials told WFTV that the person who crashed into the building had died. Employees inside the fireworks store when the crash happened were able to get out of the building safely.

West Melbourne police, Melbourne Fire Department, Brevard County Sheriff’s Office and Brevard County Fire Rescue all responded to the scene, according to WFTV. About 30 firefighters were on the scene and fire crews were expected to be there all evening.

BCFR Fire Prevention and the State Fire Marshal are at the scene for the investigation. No further information has been released
