Top 3 “one hit wonders” of the 70′s 80′s and 90′s

Paste Magazine released its list of the top 50 greatest one-hit wonders in appreciation of national one-hit wonder day.

Eagle fans won’t be surprised to find out their #1 song: Dexy’s Midnight Runners and “Come On Eileen”

Because here at the Eagle we roll a little differently, here are my top 3 “one hit wonders” that are not as obvious:

#3 The Cardigans “Lovefool” - This song was pure pop and pure magic. The lead singer Nina Persson had such a sexy sultry take on the song. This is one song you wish would last another 5 minutes.

#2 Dan Hartman “I Can Dream About You” - This song has a strange history. It was written by Hartman for Hall & Oates who turned it down. Then it was recorded by another singer for the movie “Streets of Fire.” Hartman wanted a hit with it himself, so he recorded it, and the rest is music legend. No one but Hartman could pull it off as well.

#1 Rupert Holmes “Escape (The Pina Colada Song) - This song had the distinction of being #1 in both the 1970′s and 1980′s. It ended up being on top of the charts in December of 1979 so it hit both decades. That’s an amazing feat! It’s one of those perfect records. Excellent story, with a happy ending, and a fun sing-along. Rupert is #1 in my book.
