August 18th, 1979, Nick Lowe marries Johnny Cash’s stepdaughter, country singer Carleen Carter. They get married out in LA, and if you ever wanted to see a reenactment of their wedding, all you have to do is watch the video that Nick did for “Cruel to Be Kind”, because that’s part of the video.

Today in 1977, Elvis Presley’s funeral takes place at Graceland. 150 guests are invited inside, while 75,000 people wait outside to pay their respects.

On this day in 1969, the final day of Woodstock. Now, Jimi Hendrix, the headliner, was supposed to play on Sunday night, but things got delayed. He takes the stage on Monday morning. Part of his set, a scorching version of the national anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner”, that is still very much spoken of today. And he closes out the entire festival by playing “Hey Joe.”

And then we look at today’s calendar, we find a rock birthday on it, original drummer from foreigner, Dennis Elliott.
