80s Guilty Pleasure Love Songs

You can embarass your kids by cranking these songs up

The 80s was the decade filled with so much great music. Decades later, there are some standouts that you just don’t hear very much anymore but nonetheless fantastic records. Here’s Nick Roberts top 5:

Number 5: “Almost Paradise” by Nancy Wilson and Mike Reno: How did two hard rockers come up with the softest rock song of the year? We’ll it’s a good song. It’s the love theme from Footloose. A great song you don’t hear that song very much anymore. It did spend a week at #1 on the Adult Contemporary charts. On the top 40 charts it made the top 10 but not as successful as the soft rock charts.

Number 4:Endless Love” by Lionel Richie and Diana Ross: Another movie soundtrack song from the 1981 Film “Endless Love” starring Brooke Shields. It might sound a bit campy by today’s standards, but back then it was serious business about forbidden love. Very emotional.

Number 3: “Up Where We Belong” by Joe Cocker: This song also comes from a movie soundtrack, “An Officer and a Gentleman.” Joe Cocker is a legendary rocker, and this song was a little out of place for his style. Despite this, it was his only #1. This song still holds up.

Number 2:Making Love out of Nothing at All” by Air Supply: How could you do a guilty pleasure love song list without Air Supply? To be fair, I love all of their music. For a couple years in the early 80s they were the biggest adult hitmakers. Lost in Love, All out of love, Sweet Dreams; so many really great tunes in just a span of a few years was the mainstay on radio. This sound to me was the “peak” of their top 40 career hitting #2 in 1983. A major feat considering the monster songs on the charts at that time.

Number 1: “Never Gonna Change My Love for You” by Glenn Medeiros: This is honestly just a great song. I remember playing it on the radio when it first came out, and the song still holds up. What makes it #1 in my book? Glenn and his kids are active on social media, and you can tell that he’s a great guy and has a great family. Fun after all these years.
