From Insurrection to Inauguration: Senate confirms Avril Haines as Biden’s first Cabinet appointment

Delaware Democrat Joe Biden became the nation’s 46th president on Wednesday, two weeks after the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol. Supporters of President Donald Trump stormed the Capitol as lawmakers were gathered to ratify Biden’s 2020 presidential election win. Five people died as a result of the unrest, including a Capitol police officer, and dozens of people face charges.
