Under the wire: Nebraska woman buys winning $128K lottery ticket just before deadline

OMAHA, Neb. — A Nebraska woman bought a lottery ticket with minutes to spare Saturday night, and it turned out to be a big winner.

Stacey Elmborg, of Omaha, won $128,000 in the Nebraska Lottery’s, Nebraska Pick 5 game, but she almost missed the opportunity.

Elmborg, who told lottery officials that she plays the Pick 5 game nightly, was at the Baker’s supermarket shortly before the 9 p.m. deadline to purchase tickets, the Omaha World-Herald reported. She was at the customer service counter, but the clerk was away from the area, the newspaper reported.

The clerk, who was bagging groceries, saw Elmborg and hurried back to take Elmborg’s ticket. She used the birthdates of five family members -- 9, 14, 17, 19 and 22.

Elmborg got her numbers in under the wire, and it resulted in a hefty check. HEr numbers were drawn later Saturday night.

According to Nebraska Lottery officials, Elmborg said she plans to use her winnings to find a new place to live for herself and her son.
