A 6-year-old boy who survived leukemia detonated a portion of a defunct overpass, making his wish come true and helping the Texas Department of Transportation with its highway project.
Through a partnership between the transportation agency and Make-A-Wish Central and South Texas, Archer Foltermann helped with the implosion of a section of two spans of northbound Interstate 35 and the northbound U.S. 183 flyover, KVUE reported.
“And, boom goes the dynamite,” the transportation authority said on social media. “Thank you Archer and Make-A-Wish for helping us make today’s NB I-35 to NB US 183 flyover implosion a safe success.”

There were intermittent traffic stops in both directions Saturday morning as part of the implosion.
The first sections of the overpass were destroyed May 7, KVUE reported. The new, longer flyover includes a bypass lane and is expected to ease traffic along that section of Interstate 35.
