The two were the first women allowed to undergo the rigorous screening tests that were started more than 60 years ago. A third woman is also in the program but is not as far along.

The women earned an Army Ranger Tab after completing a final challenge in the Florida swamps.

Read an NPR interview about the rigorous tests here.

Both women are West Point graduates.

Although the women earned the Army Ranger tab and can wear it on their uniforms, they still cannot "try out for the elite 75th Ranger Regiment, a Special Operations force that remains closed to women and has its own separate, exhausting requirements and training," according to the Washington Post.
