The restaurant, located at 5212 Salem Avenue, will be undergoing some “revamping.”

In a social media post, the owners said the decision “wasn’t made lightly,” but added that it’s necessary.

While a time frame was not given, the post said the closure would be for a short period of time.

News Center 7’s Amber Jenkins spoke with Tae Winston, a co-owner of Mar’Tae, about the temporary closure.

“We been having an issue with staffing. With consistency and them showing up properly. And it’s been coming out in the restaurant. So we’re shutting down for some hiring and training,” Winston said.

Mar’Tae Kitchen and Cocktails opened in November 2025, but they have found that finding the right workers can be challenging.

“We bring them in, and people don’t want to stay or do the work correctly. We set out to give them a cookbook, but they still make it their way. It’s hard to find quality people,” she said.

Winston said she is working with an experienced chef to help her staff understand what it takes to keep customers happy.

She added that she appreciates the feedback and hopes the temporary closure will lead to improvement.

“If you want businesses and people to last, you got to give owners grace. Give them time to straighten things out. It’s not that we don’t care and running a bad business, we care,” Winston said.

Winston hopes the restaurant will reopen in about three weeks.
