A 911 call obtained by News Center 7 describes the moment a woman found the man who had been shot.
“He’s lying on the ground. I’m about to try to go help him,” the caller said.
The caller didn’t answer the dispatcher’s questions, requesting that police and medics respond quickly.
“Please get here,” the caller said.
Dayton police told News Center 7’s Mike Campbell that upon arrival, they found the deceased victim in a small grassy area near one of the apartment complex’s buildings.
Officers set up caution tape and called in homicide detectives.
A large crowd of apartment residents gathered outside, upset and grieving about what happened.
Dayton police said they have some leads and information that could help them find the people involved, but at this time, no arrests have been made.
It’s unclear if authorities found any weapons on scene or what led up to the gunfire.
News Center 7 has reached out to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for the identity of the victim.
