Flagger working in construction zone of US-33 hit, killed by car

AUGLAIZE COUNTY — A flagger working in a construction zone in Auglaize County was hit and killed by a car on Wednesday, according to an Ohio State Highway Patrol spokesperson.

The crash happened on US 33 just east of State Route 65 south in Clay Township.

A preliminary investigation found that a 35-year-old man was driving a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee east on US-33 when he struck the worker.

The victim has been identified as Troy Ray, 58, of Clyde, Ohio.

He was working as a flagger in a construction zone in the eastbound lane.

The driver of the Jeep was not injured in this crash.

Joseph was wearing his seatbelt and did not sustain any injuries.

Troopers do not believe alcohol or drugs contributed to this crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
