DAYTON —

After a brief thaw Thursday the Miami Valley will get another big taste of winter. Here is the latest thinking and timeline for this winter storm.

>> County-by-County Weather

Thursday: The warmest day of the week by far means highs near 60. This is good news for the roads since there won’t be any chances for frozen precipitation. That said, moisture streaming in ahead of this system will bring the chance for rain. Scattered rain showers will be possible later in the afternoon and especially at night. Roads will be wet for Thursday evenings commute.

Friday: TRain showers for most of the area before 8AM. A transition to a wintry mix of sleet and freezing rain will develop between 7-10AM in communities like Celina, Wapakoneta, Sidney and Greenville. The cold air will transition the central Miami Valley to a wintry mix from 12PM into the early afternoon in the Dayton area. Everyone then has the chance to see scattered snow for the evening drive. The chance for a light glaze of ice then snow will keep the roads slick Friday into Saturday morning.

Saturday: Active snow will end very quickly overnight. Most of the impacts Saturday will come from refreeze and blowing/drifting snow. Saturday will be much colder so anything went or untreated could stay snowy or icy. Gusts around 30MPH will be possible. Temperatures overnight will drop into the single digits.
