It sounds like a movie plot: Two orphaned sisters separated as children in South Korea find each other decades later on the other side of the world, working at the same Florida hospital.

But this really happened.

According to the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, Holly Hoyle O'Brien, 46, and Meagan Hughes, 44, became fast friends at Doctors Hospital of Sarasota, where they both work the 7 a.m.-7:30 p.m. shift in the medical surgical unit.

"One of the patients told me there was another nurse, named Meagan, who was from Korea," O'Brien said. "She said, 'You should talk to her. Maybe you're from the same town.'"

The more O'Brien and Hughes talked, the more things they discovered they had in common. Both women were orphaned as children in the 1970s. Both were adopted by American families. Both even shared the same family name: Hughes was born Eun-Sook Shin, and O'Brien's birth name was Pok-nam Shin. Plus, O'Brien was haunted by memories of a younger sister.

"I was like, 'This is too good to be true,'" O'Brien said. "I said, 'We've got to do the DNA test; it's the only way we'll get the truth out of the whole thing."

The pair sent DNA samples to a lab in Canada. The results confirmed their suspicions.

"I was trembling," O'Brien said. "I was so excited. I was ecstatic."

"When I heard from Holly, my first reaction was like, 'Oh my god,'" Hughes added. "I was in shock. I was numb. I have a sister."
