Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge welcomed a daughter, weighing 8 pounds and 3 ounces, on Saturday morning. This is their second child.

The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth. The mother and daughter are in good health, according to the Kensington Palace Twitter account.

London residents gathered in the streets to celebrate the auspicious occasion, some outside of St. Mary's Hospital where the child was born. A few hundred also gathered outside of Buckingham Palace to see the birth announcement placed on a golden easel for display.

The newborn, whose name was not immediately available, is fourth in line to the British throne. Under new laws governing succession, the princess will keep her spot in line (behind Prince Charles, William, and George) even if the couple gives birth to another boy in the future. Previously, a male would have superseded a female in such a situation.

The parents waited two days to reveal his name of the couple's first child, Prince George. A similar wait is expected for the name of their daughter, but that hasn't stopped many from speculating what the name might be.

The queen will approve the parents' name of choice, according to BBC.

British bookmakers say the public had wagered the infant would be a girl.

Prince George was born at the same hospital's Lindo Wing in 2013.

Princess Kate gets a loyalty discount for using the hospital's services again, according to the Associated Press.

William and Kate had a low-key anniversary celebration Wednesday at Kensington Palace in preparation of a new arrival.
